As AI continues to advance, both inside and outside of the school system, many of us find ourselves wondering two big things: Should we be using this incredible new technology, regardless of where it may end up in the next few years, and if so, how?

Independent schools stand at a fork in the road. On one side are those doubling down on tradition—clinging to formulas that have served them well for decades, avoiding innovation, and treating AI as a threat to be managed rather than a tool to be explored.

For decades, the promise of educational technology has been clear: give students the tools and confidence to take ownership of their own learning.

In a previous job, Afandie Winter, TLIS, once learned that planning was underway for a construction project. He started asking simple questions: Where will phones plug in? How will Wi-Fi be delivered? Where will the printers go? Will the spaces have displays or projectors? How about audio?

We can talk all day about how AI will make teachers’ jobs easier, but they need solid ideas for exactly what it can do for them. Here are examples of concrete tasks and projects AI can handle for educators.
